Anil Kapoor was rumoured to be dating Madhuri Dixit and Kimi Katkar. He married Sunita Bhambhani in 1984 and has been together since then. They have 3 children: actors Sonam Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor, and producer Rhea Kapoor.
Anil was born into an illustrious film family. His father was the producer Surinder Kapoor and mother is Nirmal Kapoor. He has two brothers, producer Boney Kapoor and actor Sanjay Kapoor, and one sister Reena. His nephews include actors Arjun Kapoor and Mohit Marwah while niece is actress Jhanvi Kapoor. Late Sridevi was his sister-in-law. He is also related to the Raj Kapoor family.
Anil marked his debut with a minor role in the 1979 film Hamare Tumhare. Over the next few years, he continued to get supporting roles in Hindi film, though he found success as a lead actor in Vamsa Vruksham (Telugu debut) and Pallavi Anu Pallavi (Kannada debut). In 1983 Kapoor got his first Bollywood lead role in Woh Saat Din, which garnered a lot of praises. By the end of the 80s, Kapoor had established himself as one of the leading young actors, giving films like Chameli Ki Shaadi, Karma, Mr. India, Tezaab, Ram Lakhan and Parinda.
The 90s witnessed a newer branch of young actors, but Anil Kapoor continued to solidify his stardom with films like Kishen Kanhaiya, Jamai Raja, Lamhe, Beta, 1942: A Love Story, Judaai, Virasat, Hum Aapke Dil Main Rehte Hain and Taal. The reason why Anil Kapoor remained one of the top actors was his effortless switch between commercial and art cinema, never shying from experimenting.
As the new century began, Anil Kapoor took a break from lead roles and focused on supporting roles. While the first half of the decade saw some of his great lead performances in Nayak and Armaan, he soon adapted himself to play second-lead in films like Chocolate, Tashan and Yuvvraj. He also focused more on doing comedic roles and received much praise for his performance in films like Welcome and No Entry. In the current decade, some of his noteworthy films include Shootout At Wadala, Dil Dhadakhne Do, Welcome Back, Race 3, Fanney Khan and Mubarakan. His latest venture in 2019 was Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga.
Anil is also one of the few Indian actors to have formed a standing in international cinema too. Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011), as well as the show 24 (2010) were some of his notable projects. Kapoor is also a producer and made films like My Wife's Murder, Gandhi, My Father and Veere Di Wedding.

The famous mud scene in Nayak was done because Kapoor refused to shave his chest hair during the fight scene. Multani mitti was used instead of mud.
