Russo Brothers are perhaps the most iconic directors to ever make MCU movies. While they jumped into the game pretty late with Captain America: Winter Soldier in 2014, they went on to direct some of the most impactful movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - namely, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. However, after Avengers: Endgame became the biggest blockbuster movie ever, Joe and Anthony Russo decided to part ways with Marvel and focus on their independent projects. But, they now say that they will come back only on one condition. Let's find out.
In an interview with SyfyWire, the Russo brothers said that while they are mostly done building the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they would be open to projects that involve other franchises that Disney recently acquired. These include the likes of X-Men, Deadpool, and Fantastic Four.
"I grew on up Byrne's X-Men run. Ben Grimm was a favorite character growing up, the Thing. And Fantastic Four is now in the Marvel fold. There's a lot. Silver Surfer is an amazing character. Going really big in cosmic would be a lot of fun. So there's a lot of things that could attract us," Joe Russo said.
They also went on to clarify that they would not be keen on being part of a Disney+ series anytime soon. "I think after you go on the journey that we went on –—because there is a comprehensive narrative, an overarching story from Winter Soldier all the way to the end of Endgame that involves Tony and Cap, through Civil War, through Infinity War — I think that scale of ambition in storytelling is a bug that's bit us. And we're compelled to tell more stories on that scale, with that sort of years-long ambition to them," Joe added.
The Russo brothers have been associated with two of the highest earning movies for Marvel in the MCU, and would want to maintain that lineage. The introduction of an X-Men or Deadpool into the MCU would mean more hype and thus more earnings.
