The new year and the new decade are upon us and video streaming platforms are all set to up their game in 2020. In January 2020, the top premium streaming services in India, Netflix, Prime Video, and Hotstar, are bringing you some of their fresh and original content. Here's every major release that Netflix, Prime Video, and Hotstar have planned for India in January 2020.


Ghost Stories (January 01)

Ghost Stories is the first original movie from Netflix India in 2020. Directed by the same minds behind 2018's Lust Stories, Ghost Stories is an anthology film that features four different horror stories from Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee, and Karan Johar.

Jamtara - Sabka Number Aayega (January 17)

Jamtara is the first original series from Netflix India this year. This true crime show is about a group of small-town young men who run a lucrative phishing operation, until a corrupt politician wants in on their scheme, while a cop attempts to catch them.

Vir Das: For India (January 26)

Vir Das is back with yet another original stand-up special for Netflix India. Releasing this Republic Day in 2020, there isn't much information about Vir Das' next special but we can expect his observations to be hilarious as always.

Motichoor Chaknachoor (January 31)

This romcom features the unusual combination of Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Athiya Shetty. Motichoor Chaknachoor follows the story of a 36-year-old man trying hard to find a girl for marriage.

Wake N Bake (Stand Up Special By Rohan Joshi) (January 10)

Having toured India in 2019, comedian Rohan Joshi is coming up with his first-ever stand-up special for Amazon Prime Video this month. Be prepared for a hilarious ride with his keen observations.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 (January 14)

The Angry Birds are back for yet another round on Prime Video. The story is about the flightless birds and scheming green pigs who take their feud to the next level.

The Forgotten Army (January 24)

Kabir Khan's The Forgotten Army will show the unseen struggle of men and women who fought with Indian National Army alongside freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Features Sunny Kaushal, Vicky's younger brother.


The Outsider (January 13)

Based on one of Stephen King's recent novels, this HBO miniseries is about a detective who pairs up with an unorthodox investigator after a supernatural force factors in the brutal murder of an 11-year-old boy.

Curb Your Enthusiasm (January 20)

Arriving later this month, Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 10 is the perfect sitcom for Seinfeld fans who are still feeling the hangover. The tenth season is here after a two-year break, with Larry David still at the helm.

Avenue 5 (January 20)

Veep creator Armando Iannucci is back on HBO with a satire movie, Avenue 5, based in the 2050s. Hugh Laurie in the lead, Avenue 5 is set aboard a luxury tourist spaceship that experiences technical difficulties.
